Galant VR-4 Upgrade Path
If I had it to do over again, here is the order I would do it in:
First, DO NOT RUN RIGHT OUT AND BUY A BIGGER TURBO! I know, it sounds all manly and such to say you got a 16G or 20G, but your money is better spent doing the other upgrades below first, and then, when the rest of the car is ready for it, you can get that killer turbo. The stock 14G is good to about 300 HP, so spend a couple hours porting it.
2 1/2" Mofugas Downpipe, cat, and cat-back exhaust. Along with the free mods, this will add 20 to 30 HP
Turbotrix ported O2 housing with dump tube mod
Denso fuel pump upgrade
Joe P. manual boost controller and boost gauge. Now you can turn the boost up to about 15 psi.
K&N air filter on hacked MAS or Al Blaha MAS. Or, you can go, as I did, with a second Gen MAS, but you must get the Super AFC below in order to dial it in.
Front Mount Intercooler. This makes a big difference in throttle response!
Apexi Super AFC with 550cc fuel injectors and A/F gauge
Low restriction intake (Dejon or Injen)
Now, when you finally have plenty of fuel, air, and low restriction exhaust, you can get that BIG TURBO! While you're at it, you should probably replace that cracked and restrictive exhaust manifold with a '95 ported one and rewire the fuel pump with 10 gauge wire. Also be prepared to replace that stock clutch, as it will not be able to take the boost from a 16G or bigger turbo!
